FAN (Franklin A. Newcomer)

History

FAN Coach Company was founded by Franklin A. Newcomer on May 16, 1954, and chose his initials for the company name. The “factory”, at first, was a barn with side wall jigs in a horse stable and the cabinet shop in a hay mow. It took three weeks to build the first FAN, a 14 ft. model equipped with a 2-burner plate, ice box, 10-gallon water tank, and a pump by the sink.

**ARISTOCRAT**

History

Irving Perch manufactured Aristocrat trailers in California from 1956 to 1974. The Lo Liner model was called that because one could purchase optional metal wheels to install when storage in a low garage was desired. These smaller wheels lowered the height, as well as the unique “drop axle”. The Lo Liner was sold as a 13' and a 15' trailer back then, but licensed as 16', as the nearest measurement from hitch to tail. Perch also manufactured a Mainliner, Land Commander…

A 1998 Chinook Concourse in Redwood City, Calif.

History

Chinook RV, a division of Trail Wagons Inc. was a manufacturer of relatively short (mini) Class C (Class B+) motorhomes.

The company got its start in 1961 as Chinook RV Camper Vans in the garage of Don Lukehart Sr. An avid enthusiast of outdoor camping frustrated with the lack of mobile campers available on the market, Lukehart first went to work with his son, Gary, on converting a Chevrolet Corvair into a “mini camper”.

Serro Scotty trailers were built from 1957 until April, 1997, when the plant in Irwin, Pennsylvania burned down. The plant later reopened in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, but never again to make travel trailers. Today, known as Mobile Concepts by Scotty, they manufacture fire safety “houses”.
