Description: This is truly a rare find, a 1974 ARGOSY 22 foot Completely Reconditioned.
Originally manufactured by AIRSTREAM Company in Ohio. It was one of the early versions of the fiberglass end caps. Both front and back are made of Fiberglass from the factory, not the steel that is normally used.
I found this in New Hampshire on E Bay. Before leaving I replaced all four tires and changed the seals and bearings. I started a year and a half project of repair, replace, refurbish, fix, make new and modernized. The trailer was reworked at an Airstream Refurbishing shop in New Jersey (South Jersey RV ) and they had completed all of the work. I will list the items and or systems that were addressed for function and or repair and made good.
Wheel Bearings, Wheel seals replaced, Brake magnetic tested good, Window seals ,screens and bug seals replaced, LP gas line replaced (copper), all water lines replaced with PEX complete, Hot water heater replaced.
The outside shell: removed all unneeded screws hooks and do-dads added to the body , sanded down and sent the entire rig to a Tractor Trailer Paint Shop. The outside was primed and baked the sanded and painted with the exact Argosy color it was again baked and was sprayed with a clear coat. Replaced all DOT marker lights with LED’S (48 states legal).
The interior was painted with speckle style paint (similar to original). Basically white with hints of earth tone colors.
Replaced LP automatic switch-over and regulator, filled two 40 pound LP tanks on August 12 2009 , have not used any. Replaced the tongue jack with 1500 pound Electric. Reinstalled and repaired all the belly plates. Install Airstream LP tank cover. Pressure tested the Black water,Grey water and Fresh water tanks all tested good.
Stripped out original carpet as well as all the furnishings to the bare walls. Did not find any rot in the floor at all. Replaced the floor with 3 inch wide strips of Vinyl flooring (random lengths). One nice feature of the floor is if you should damage a section of floor you can replace only the damaged area. It is real easy to keep clean. I happen to be a larger than normal person so I had all the furniture supports and mounts reinforced for extra strength as well as all seating. Installed an IOTA 75 amp converter for the 12 volt electric system. Installed new Deep Cycle battery, Installed Fluorescent lights thru-out, Replaced Air Conditioner with a 15,000 BTU Carrier Draws about 13 amps, added TWO Fantastic fans with rain sensors, they really keep the rig very comfortable. Draws about 13 amps. This rig runs on 30 Amp service 11 Volts AC.

Removed and trashed all the cushions and foam, replaced the seating and back cushions and had them wrapped in muslin first then covered in a very pleasing earth toned heavy fabric. The front surface of the seat is covered with soft suede like cover that looks like leather (light brown). Covered the over head bins with the same fabric as the seating surface, a most elegant touch.
Installed the following self contained alarms: LP Gas, smoke detector and a CO (carbon monoxide).

All windows are tinted on the inside including the front curved glass. It took three companies to get it right. No bubbles ,lines or fogging. It works great in the bright sun, keeps the rig much cooler.

Replaced the warm air heater, including the tank heater lines. The Gray and Black tanks are kept warm when the heater runs to prevent freezing. Hot Water heater replaced. Plenty of hot water for showers.

The dinette table was reengineered such that it can slide front or back to allow it easier to get in and out. Also added a cabinet above the heater for more storage space. The microwave sits on top of the new cabinet. All table/counter surfaces covered with Formica brand tops. (A light grey/red).

The toilet is fully functional ,no leaks or cracks. Added a water-saver wash-down hose for those times when you are “boon-docking” (no outside water or power) the water-saver allows you to flush with the smallest amount of water. The rig does not use a lot of power and can last almost a week without outside power.

The outside of the body came with “rub-rails” these are a band of aluminum with an inset of colored plastic that absorb minor hit and dings to the body. The original had this “ugly “ orange color. I thought it looked gross. So , in my wisdom I set out to paint about 120 feet of 1 inch plastic. What a fiasco, no matter how I sanded or primed or cleaned nothing would stick. I found some 1 inch DOT reflector tape. It not only looks great but you cannot miss this unit in the dark. It can be seen more than a mile away.

Installed a Wiengard Electronic TV antenna. It has a signal booster. Works great.
Equipped on all sides with ZEP DEE awnings ,main awnings about 18 feet curb side ,refrigerator side and the rear. Color is a light brown with white and darker brown strips. New level indicator in front. Two separate lights for backing at night 55 watts each. Included is a Class 3 weight distributing hitch with sway bars.

The original surfaces of the interior cabinets were surfaced with “contact paper”, I did not think this was fitting so, I removed the plastic and replaced it with “Ash Veneer” real wood. Stained and varnished. Now it looks elegant. The Oven /Stove were removed and fully disassembled, cleaned and reassembled using stainless steel hardware. Double sink was replaced along with faucet.

I am sure I forgot some items, but as you can see a lot went in to this, seeing this will make the difference.

Thank you for plowing through this.

Tin Can Tourist Classified Ad Disclaimer and warnings

Sellers - please note - Beware of a buyer scam
If you've received an offer from a buyer (typically overseas) who promises to send a cashier's check for the full amount of your asking price, but he's asking you to send a check for several hundred dollars to a person who will be transporting the trailer. This is not a legitimate request. Don't Do It. If someone really wants to buy your trailer regardless of location, they should be responsible for not only the cost of the trailer, but transportation fees. Use your best judgement here, you're trying to sell a trailer, not pay for your buyer's expenses. The Tin Can Tourists Club offers this classified system free of charge as a service to our community.
